Doing our part: LeverageTek and the Environment

LeverageTek is a Professional Service company providing IM/IT specialists to organizations on both contract and permanent basis. At first glance, our environmental impact may see minimal compared to that of a manufacturing company, for example. However, we are a firm believer that everyone (individuals and organizations) has a part to play in helping our environment. We are but one piece in an incredibly large puzzle, but we are still one piece. There are a number of things we can do to be more sustainable in our day to day operations.

We are proud of the small steps we have already taken to reduce paper usage and personal waste (e.g. employees use re-usable coffee cups for their caffeine fix). There is one area that we felt required attention — the carbon emissions from commuting to and from work and driving to meetings around town. We are now located in a downtown office to reduce the amount of driving required, as a majority of our customers are located within walking distance of our office. We are also trying to bike, walk, or skate to work whenever possible. However, it is often essential that we put kilometres on the road as part of our business.

We have teamed with Tree Canada, an Ottawa based Non-Profit organization to offset the carbon emissions that we have identified. Tree Canada provides education, technical assistance, resources and financial support through working partnerships to encourage Canadians to plant and care for trees in an effort to help reduce the harmful effects of carbon dioxide emissions. Tree Canada is a leader in promoting the value of urban forests in Canada.

Through LeverageTek's donations, Tree Canada will plant 300 trees annually — offsetting our carbon produced through vehicle emissions.
